Abstract

Chronic hemodialysis is the main method of replacement therapy in patients with terminal stage of chronic renal failure. Cardiovascular pathology is one of the main causes of death of hemodialysis patients. Oxidative stress leads to endothelial dysfunction and it is significant in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular pathology in this category of patients. Theoretically, the use of drugs with antioxidant type of action can reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications in hemodialysis patients. Modern investigations show inconsistent results of the effect of ascorbic acid on oxidative stress, endothelial function, lipid profile in this category of patients. It should be noted that there is no generally accepted approach to dosing, routes of administration, duration of application of ascorbic acid in relation to the procedure of hemodialysis.

Key words

chronic hemodialysis, oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, antioxidants, ascorbic acid
